Arshad Iqbal is a right-arm fast-medium bowler for the Pakistan national team and domestic side Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Standing at 6 feet 2 inches tall, he is recognized for his ability to generate pace and swing, regularly bowling above 140 km/h and troubling batsmen with steep bounce and aggressive seam movement.
Iqbal began his cricketing journey through the youth structures of Abbottabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, representing regional sides at Under-16 and Under-19 level before progressing rapidly through Pakistan’s domestic system. He made his first-class debut for Water and Power Development Authority in the 2018 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, immediately making an impression by taking five wickets in the match. He later made his List A debut for the same side in the 2018 Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup.
At franchise level, Iqbal entered the Pakistan Super League with Karachi Kings in 2021 before moving to Peshawar Zalmi. His performances in the PSL have highlighted his ability as a strike bowler, including a notable three wicket spell against Lahore Qalandars during the 2023 season.
Internationally, Iqbal made his T20I debut for Pakistan against Zimbabwe national cricket team on 23 April 2021 at Harare Sports Club. He finished with figures of 1/16 and drew widespread attention after delivering a sharp bouncer that struck and damaged a batsman’s helmet, showcasing his raw pace and aggression.
Earlier in his career, Iqbal represented Pakistan at the 2018 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand after being selected in the national Under-19 squad by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Prior to the tournament, he impressed in warm-up matches, including a disciplined spell of 2/26 against Namibia Under-19s. During the World Cup itself, he played five matches and claimed 6 wickets at an economy rate of 3.65, with best figures of 3/51. One of his standout performances came in the semi-final against India, where his accurate seam bowling sparked a middle-order collapse and helped Pakistan remain competitive in the contest.
With the PSL now complete, Arshad is targeting a season in the UK to show off his skills in conditions which would be favourable to his style of bowling. He also has a first class best of 62 with bat in hand and will be looking to contribute from the middle to lower order in the UK. For any club seeking a genuine strike bowler, Arshad would be a fine option.
