He was been one of KY’s stand-out performers last season hitting 411 runs at 31.61 in 9 Major Clubs Tournament (first-class) matches. Basnayake has now played three seasons in the professional game where he boasts respectable numbers, particularly with the bat in both red and white ball cricket.

His journey into professional cricket was an interesting one. He was in his early-30s when he broke into first-class cricket. His selection was based on his exploits for the Sri Lankan LMS team that won the World Cup in the UK back in 2018. He hasn’t looked back since. 787 runs across the three formats during his maiden professional season (2018/19), including a century (106), then two seasons on either side of COVID.

Having enjoyed his brief UK stint whilst on his LMS tour, Basnayake is now seeking a UK opportunity for the 2024 season.
