Ashan Randika is an explosive opening batter for the Sri Lankan Army Sports Club, known for his aggressive stroke play and ability to dominate in all formats. A late bloomer in domestic cricket, Randika has quickly made up for lost time, producing dynamic centuries across formats since his debut.
He broke into the domestic scene in February 2017 at age 24 and began showing his potential the following season with quickfire half-centuries in both first-class (52) and T20 cricket (72 off 36 balls). Playing alongside Sri Lankan stars such as Dinesh Chandimal, Seekkuge Prasanna, Asela Gunaratne, and Thisara Perera, Randika has firmly established himself in Army SC’s top order.
His breakout season came in 2018/19, where he recorded a second first-class fifty (53) and went on to smash centuries in both List A and T20 cricket. Notably, he hammered a 59-ball 117 (SR 198.31) against Moors in the T20 semi-final, finishing the tournament as the sixth-highest run-scorer (229 runs at 32.71), with a blistering strike rate of 177.51—second only to Prasanna (min. 200 runs).
Just weeks later, he lit up the List A circuit with 108 from just 72 balls (10 sixes) against Kandy Customs. In the 2019/20 season, his white-ball form continued, and he also made strides in red-ball cricket, averaging 31.75 pre-COVID. In August 2020, he scored 203 runs at 40.60, including a stunning maiden first-class century.
That century came in a Super Eight Tier A clash against Chilaw Marians, whose attack featured several Sri Lankan internationals. Chasing 295, Randika smashed 133 off 84 balls (10 sixes, 9 fours), single-handedly giving Army a real shot at victory before falling in the 28th over with the score at 218-5.
His performances have earned wider recognition, including appearances for Jaffna Kings in the Lanka Premier League (Dec 2021, Dec 2022) and selection for Sri Lankan Greys in August 2022.
In his debut UK season with Brooke CC (Norfolk) in 2025, Randika has continued to impress, hitting an average of nearly 50 with the bat (HS 185) and claiming 32 wickets at 20.63, including two five-wicket hauls. He is set to return to the UK in 2026.
