Avishka Perera is, quite simply, an outstanding prospect who seems destined for the big stage.

A schoolboy and age-group superstar, in recent years Perera has transitioned to professional cricket where he’s played for the star-studded Colts Cricket Club. Over the past two seasons, Perera has played alongside the likes of Sri Lankan internationals Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya Lakshan, and Akila Dananjaya, in a side that also features CricX league cricket stars Hashan Dumindu, and Colts skipper, Sangeeth Cooray.

A hugely talented opening batter who can both keep wicket and bowl off spin, Perera broke into first-class cricket initially for Lankan Cricket Club back in May 2019. Later that year he represented Sri Lankan U19s in both Test and ODI’s.

Unfortunately, COVID struck, but Perera remained key to Sri Lanka’s future plans. Upon cricket’s return, he would tour England with the Sri Lankan Cricket Development XI (May 2022), having topped the Emerging Three Day Tournament run charts during the previous few months. His 663 runs at 82.87 included 2 centuries, and highest score of 245.

Later that year (August 2022), he would make his first-class debut for Colts, and it’s fair to say Perera excelled, hitting yet another double hundred – this time 236 from 287 runs against Kandy Customs Sports Club. Whilst he has yet to add to this century in domestic cricket, Perera has both the ability, and pedigree, to push on with his cricketing career.

As part of his ongoing development, the Sri Lankan young gun is eager to return to Northern shores in 2025, this time to play a full season’s league cricket. We think he’s one of the more exciting prospects coming through the Sri Lankan ranks, and someone that could light up club cricket next summer.
