Avumile Mnci, or “Dunga” as he’s affectionately known by his teammates, is a solid wicket-keeper batter playing domestic cricket in South Africa for Border.
He returned to the province during the 2021/22 summer following two seasons with Northern Cape (2018/19-19/20), having previously spent three campaigns with Border (2015/16-17/18). To date, the talented gloveman has played 59 matches across the three formats and is edging towards 1,000 runs with a couple of half-centuries.
A graduate of Amantinde High School, Dunga represented Border through the age groups, to include participation in two Coke Weeks (2008-09). After dominant performances, over several years at club level for Border Village, he was rewarded with first-class and List A debuts in January 2016 both against Northerns. In September 2018, he moved to Northern Cape for their Africa T20 Cup, but due to the lack of cricket during COVID, he returned to Border this summer.
Whilst his domestic numbers aren’t brilliant, what stats don’t portray is the value a player brings to a side. Dunga is an enthusiastic, dedicated cricketer with an incredibly high work ethic. A constant motivation for his teammates and quite simply, a consummate professional.
The talented keeper/batter who doubles as a keen coach is now seeking a stint down under next season.
