Benjamin Breitmeyer is a promising pace bowling all-rounder looking to break into First Class cricket. The New Zealander is currently training alongside Canterbury Men’s through their winter programme, regularly bowling to fellow Cantabs Tom Latham, Kyle Jamieson, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell and Matt Henry.The youngster has been invited by Canterbury Men’s coach, Peter Fulton to participate in the internal Canterbury Men’s pre-season matches at Hagley Oval.
Ben holds triple nationality (NZ, UK and Canada) and is looking to grow his game by having valuable overseas playing experience in 2025. As a British passport holder, he is open to opportunities in the South of England where his UK family reside. Breitmeyer will be taking the year off from his studies at Lincoln University, New Zealand where he is supported by a cricket scholarship.
Ben has been an age group representative throughout his youth cricketing career, culminating in playing for Canterbury U19s for two seasons before receiving international honours being selected to represent New Zealand in the U19 ICC EAP Cricket World Cup qualifiers in Darwin in June 2022. His bowling figures included: v Japan U19 2/13 (7 overs) with an economy rate of 1.86 and v Fiji U19 2/2 (2 overs) with an economy rate of 1.0, helping New Zealand to secure the EAP title.
As a final year high school student (at the age of 17) Ben was called up to the Canterbury A Men’s squad after impressing through age group representative cricket. Last season, his attacking bowling style was rewarded with destructive bowling figures for Canterbury A, including 4/46 (off 11 overs) against Otago A and 4/27 (off 3 overs) against a star-studded New Zealand Development XI.
Ben’s cricketing talents were spotted from an early age being offered a general excellence and cricket scholarship to Christ’s College of Canterbury, one of the top independent boys’ schools in the country. He was an integral member of the 2022 Gillette Cup-winning College 1st XI, taking out the prestigious title for the first time in the school’s history. He finished the secondary schools tournament among the top wicket-takers.
In April 2022 Ben was a key part of a year 13 touring team to England, playing against quality sides including Millfield, Whitgift, and St Edwards College in Oxford. Demonstrating his all-round ability, during this tour he accumulated 239 runs at an average of 40, including an unbeaten century against Reeds School.
Alongside fellow Canterbury players including CricX’s Matt Boyle, Ben is currently a regular member of the Old Boys Collegian Premier Men’s squad playing in the top level of cricket in Christchurch, including a 5-wicket bag in his first season.
Ben is excited by the opportunity to play a season in England, and the youngster has recently signed for Lancashire League side, Nelson Cricket Club.
