As a first-grade club cricketer, he is the consummate team player, leading his club's run-scoring in 2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18, and 2020/21 despite higher honour playing commitments.

Over 4 seasons of first-grade cricket in Dunedin, Hawkins scored 2,201 runs at 49, following his move and 2 seasons in Christchurch (1,423 runs at 45). During his club career, he can list a raft of achievements, including batsman, premier champion, and performer of the year, awards.

For Otago A, Hawkins was consistently the leading run churner. During the 2019/20 campaign, he scored 400 runs in 5 innings including back-to-back hundreds against Canterbury A. The previous year (2018), he also scored an unbeaten 140* against the touring Bangladeshi’s.

Now he has recently retired from the game, he is seeking a UK return in 2022, following his solitary stint with Colchester and East Essex back in 2014 (1,192 runs at 51.83).
