Desron Maloney is an experienced opening batter playing for the star-studded Windward Islands in the Caribbean.
After years of toil in St Vincent and the Grenadines, Maloney was finally rewarded with a Windward Volcanoes cap in November 2019. He impressed on his Regional Super50 debut against Trinidad and Tobago hitting 56 against international bowlers including Anderson Phillip, Odean Smith, and Jason Mohammed.
A few months later Maloney was at it again, this time during his WICB Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day Tournament debut against Barbados. Playing against a full international bowling attack featuring Jason Holder, Keon Harding, Jomel Warrican, Ashley Nurse, Jonathan Carter, and Kraigg Brathwaite, Maloney impressed striking 30 and 83.
He has been a Volcanoes regular since and hopes to churn even more runs when he returns to domestic cricket in 2022/23.
Maloney’s journey towards professional cricket was a long, and well overdue, one. He has excelled for St Vincent and the Grenadines, and various tournaments including the Vincy Premier T10 League, with whom he has skippered La Soufriere Hikers in recent campaigns.
He is a batter both adept at batting long, but also exploding in the shorter formats. He is also a competent, but often under-utilised off-spinner. Maloney comes highly recommended by fellow CricX star Keron Cottoy as a player capable of excelling abroad, and has now targeted opportunities in America moving forward.
