Gayan Munaweera is a left-arm seamer of Sri Lankan origin playing international cricket for Qatar. Since his debut for Qatar, he has become one of their star performers in their ICC Associate competitions.

Qatar is currently the 21st ranked T20 international side in the World and regularly plays against the likes of Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Denmark, and Vanuatu. Munaweera has played 12 T20I and 5 List A matches for Qatar, taking 13 wickets at 21.69, and 11 wickets at 25.09, respectively.

The former Sri Lankan Under-23 provincial player (for Moors and Police), moved to Qatar and made his national debut in July 2019. He starred in the Cricket World Cup Challenge League, taking wickets against Vanuatu (4-52), and Singapore (5-39), culminating with the Man of the Match award against the former.

In December 2019, he was picked as an Icon Player for the Heat Stormers in the Qatar T10 League, before returning to play for Qatar in February 2020. He went on to enjoy success in 3 T20I’s against Uganda, before 4 matches in the Asian Cricket Council Twenty20 Western Region tournament, against the Maldives, Oman, Bahrain, and United Arab Emirates.

Munaweera is now looking to ply his trade abroad, whether that be in UK or Australasian club cricket or the global franchise circuit. Whilst the strike bowler has earned plaudits for his bowling, he fancies himself with bat in hand too, with a highest List A score of 28. He represents a very useful acquisition for any club or franchise team moving forward.
