A product of Pakistan’s fast-bowling tradition, he has represented Central Punjab and Islamabad Region in domestic cricket and plays franchise cricket for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He comes from a notable cricketing family and is the younger brother of Pakistan international fast bowler Naseem Shah, and the elder brother of Ubaid Shah, a Pakistan Under-19 representative.
Born in Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Hunain Shah moved to Lahore in 2017 at the age of 13 to pursue professional cricket training. He joined the Pak Lions International Cricket Academy, where he developed his skills as a fast bowler. His early progress included district-level Under-16 cricket in Lahore, which laid the foundation for his rise through Pakistan’s age-group system. In 2020, Shah was selected for the Lahore Qalandars development program, gaining access to advanced coaching and high-performance facilities. This exposure accelerated his development and led to his selection for Central Punjab Under-19 and Central Punjab Whites Under-19 teams.
Hunain progressed to senior domestic cricket through the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Pakistan Cup, and National T20 Cup. He has demonstrated versatility by contributing with both ball and bat. He recorded his maiden List A five-wicket haul in November 2023, taking 6/26 during the Pakistan Cup.In first-class cricket, he claimed his maiden five-wicket haul with figures of 5/84, and has also produced valuable lower-order batting performances, including x2 half-centuries to demonstrate his all round ability.
