Ikram Alikhil is a sensational prospect who made his Test debut for Afghanistan against the touring Irish side in March 2019.
His selection was based on an outstanding ICC Under-19 World Cup a few months earlier (Jan 2019), which happened to be his second evidencing his promise.
Alikhil scored 86 against the West Indies, and, in doing so, broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the highest score by an 18-year-old at a U19 World Cup.
His success came as no surprise – he’d previously scored 107* during the 2017 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup final against Pakistan, helping Afghanistan to their maiden ACC U19 Cup title.
Whilst Alikhil has yet to play another Test, he did feature in 12 ODI’s in 2019, and he seems destined for a return, particularly given his recent Afghanistan A inclusion for matches against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Oman in July 2023.
The Afghan star, who also averages neigh on 40 in first-class cricket, is an incredible prospect who is now eager to secure his maiden UK season in 2024.
