Isivara Dissanayake is a batter who, quite simply, oozes talent. A stylish, and powerful left-handed batter, the Sri Lankan prospect broke into domestic cricket in 2022 and impressed.

Playing for Lankan Cricket Club in the SLC Major League Tournament, Dissanayake racked up 411 runs at 31.61 in his 10 matches. After a slow start to his first-class career, the Lankan batter hit his straps in his fourth match against the star-studded Colts side hitting his maiden fifty. He would go on to score 88 before producing a string of scores including 40 v Burgher, 67 v Sebastianites, 86 v Kandy, and 53 v Galle. In his final 7 matches of the season, he would average a tick over 50.

His immediate success in domestic cricket, though, came as no surprise. Dissanayake was a stand-out schoolboy and provincial age-group player. He is a leader of men, skippering the majority of the junior sides he represented.

The youngster was schooled at the prestigious Royal College (Colombo), often referred to as the “Eton of Sri Lanka”. To add context, the school has produced many distinguished alumni, among whom are presidents of two countries, a sultan, and three prime ministers. On the cricketing front, a raft of international player's have represented the College, most recently including the likes of Jehan Mubarek, Kushal Perera, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Lasith Embuldeniya.

Dissanayake followed in their footsteps – dominating for the school, and was awarded the most sought-after prize, the “best batsman” during the 2021 Royal St Thomas “Battle of the Blues”. This annual match, known as the “Big Match”, is played against the school’s traditional rival, St Thomas’ College, Mt Lavinia. It’s the second-longest uninterrupted cricket match series in the world.

Dissanayake has made a successful transition from the school to provincial cricket and now looks set for stardom. Whilst known for his batting, the young gun is a useful off-spinner and an outstanding fielder. He is a significant talent who is now eager to experience a season abroad for the 2025 season.
