Notably, sports journalist Kris Shannon listed him among five “rising kiwi cricket stars to watch” in January 2023.
Cumming made his Plunket Shield debut for Otago in the 2021/22 season, scoring 161 runs at 26.80. In addition to his domestic exploits, Cumming has spent the past three English summers honing his skills in competitive club cricket. He has represented Frenchay (2023, West of England Premier League), Barnsley Woolley Miners (2024), and Beverley Town (2025) in the Yorkshire Premier League South and North, scoring 855 runs at 37.17 and taking 21 wickets at 32.14 in the 2025 season. He is set to return to Beverley for the 2026 summer.
