Jermaine Blackwood is a high quality West Indian international batter who has now developed his seam bowling to a point of being considered a genuine all rounder.
His career is highly decorated, with 56 Test Match caps and 3 ODI appearances to his name for the West Indies. He has made x3 Test Match centuries and x18 half centuries and has performed 'when it matters' for his country. Arguably, his most impressive international innings came in 2020 when his 95 was the cornerstone of the West Indies chase against England in the first test at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. The England attack that day featured Archer, Anderson, Wood, Stokes and Bess, to highlight the quality of this innings under serious pressure.
Despite being handed the test match vice captain role in 2023, Jermaine now finds himself out of the international picture, he has however gone back to first class cricket and continued to churn out the runs for the star studded Jamaica team and he remains hungry to push for international honours once more.
Interestingly, Jermaine's seam bowling has really developed over the las couple of years and a stint as an overseas professional for Heyside CC in 2024 seemed to allow the penny to drop that he should be considered a genuine all rounder. He is now being utilised regularly with ball in hand in first class cricket and is a quality operator in UK conditions. His maiden stint as a UK pro was a success. After initially finding the weather and damp wickets difficult, by mid season he had adjusted and ended the season with 624 runs and a top score of 105. With a years experience under his belt, it is envisaged he will go from strength to strength moving forward. He did however excel with ball in hand, snaring 53 wickets at an average of 17.09. His best return was 6/38 and he took x4 five wicket hauls in total.
Jermaine clearly represents a high profile signing as he looks to embark on his second overseas professional assignment. He also completed his ECB Core Coaching qualification whilst in the UK and would be without doubt one of the signings of the summer.
Jermaine has now been snapped up by Norden CC in the prestigious Lancashire League for the 2025 season. Some signing and we look forward to seeing his impact for his new club.
