Joel Newlove is a consistent new ball bowler who is able to generate good bounce and seam movement due to his height and action, as well as having variations that can provide different avenues for wickets in later overs and t20s. Growing up, he was always an opening bowler who swung the ball well and could bowl a consistent line and length. These skills have allowed him to open the bowling in senior cricket from the age of 13, progressing from Guiseley CC 2nd XI, then into the 1st XI at 14, before a move at 19 to the Bradford League to play for Baildon CC.
Once he matured as a cricketer, he developed his batting skills exponentially, transforming himself from a number 11, to a genuine middle order batter, who can bat in a multitude of game scenarios. With a Bradford Cricket League T20 100, He has showcased the ability to strike the ball well and clear the ropes, whilst also hitting gaps. Not only does he possess ball striking ability, but also the ability to dig in for his team in sticky situations with the bat, showing grit and determination, similar to that showed when he began developing his batting skills.
Whilst possessing both strong batting and bowling skills, the area he prides himself most on is his fielding. Having previously won the fielding award every year at every club he’s played at, it’s an area that he shows extreme pride in. He is regularly up at the top of the fielding stats in catches and run outs, even among wicket keepers as an outfielder, as well as being featured on national sporting news for a crowd catch he took at a t20 at Headingley when he was 14.
A well rounded player and person, Joel would be an excellent all round addition for any club next season.
