Kalhara Senarathna

Kalhara Senerathne is an outstanding young all-round prospect making waves in Sri Lankan domestic cricket. A frontline off-spinner who bowls with both class and guile, Kalhara has long been earmarked for higher honours due to his consistent performances at junior and age-group levels.

He represented Sri Lanka Under-19s, featuring in 2 Under-19 ‘Test Matches’ and 4 ODIs during 2018/19. His standout performance came in the first Test against India, where he claimed 6 wickets in the first innings, announcing himself as a player to watch.

Kalhara made his First-Class debut for Ragama Cricket Club in the 2018/19 season in Sri Lanka’s premier domestic Tier A competition. He immediately impressed, taking 4 wickets in his debut match, including that of Sri Lankan international Ramesh Mendis. Since then, he has been a mainstay for Ragama across formats.

He has also represented Jaffna District in First-Class (2021/22–2023/24) and List A cricket (2024/25), further broadening his domestic experience. His domestic honours include regular appearances in the Sri Lanka Club Championship (2018/19–2024/25) and selection for prestigious sides such as the Sri Lanka Board President’s XI (2018/19) and Sri Lanka Emerging Players (2023/24).

By no means a one-trick bowler, Kalhara has contributed valuable runs across formats, registering fifties in both First-Class and List A cricket. His all-round prowess was further highlighted during his maiden UK stint in 2025 with Sandyford in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League, where he scored 713 runs at 50.93 and took 47 wickets at 9.04. Unsurprisingly, Sandyford were quick to re-sign him for a second season in 2026.

Kalhara’s blend of off-spin mastery, batting ability, and proven track record at both domestic and international junior levels makes him one of Sri Lanka’s most exciting young talents, with a bright future in professional cricket.
