Kalhara Senerathne is an outstanding prospect who is beginning to develop quite the reputation in Sri Lankan domestic cricket.
A frontline off spinner who bowls with class and guile, Kalhara has long been earmarked for higher honours since his days at junior level, where he excelled in various age-group Provincial and School tournaments. Further evidence to his talent was his inclusion for Sri Lanka Under 19s, where he featured in 2 Under 19 'Test Matches' and 4 'ODIs'. His best performance came in the first Test against India where he picked up 6 first innings wickets.
As a fresh faced youngster, he broke into professional cricket, making his First Class debut in 2018 for Ragama Cricket Club in Sri Lankan Crickets premier domestic competition (Tier A). He made a solid start, with 4 wickets in the game, including that of Sri Lankan international Ramesh Mendis. Kalhara had announced himself at the elite level. He went on to make both his T20 and List A debuts for Ragama in March 2021 and he hasn't looked back since. His performances and talent was recognised further with inclusion in the Kandy Warriors squad for the 2021 Lankan Premier League and he has recently been involved in the National Premier League for the Jaffna Cricket Team where he has continued to show off his immense talent.
By no means a one trick pony, Kalhara has the ability to contribute as a genuine all rounder in club cricket. He has a First Class best of 57* and List A best of 52 which would suggest he would be more than capable of equipping himself well with the willow in hand in what is set to be his first trip overseas as a club cricket professional.
Kalhara is a fantastic young man who is extremely keen to head overseas next summer. For any club seeking a high quality spinner who can bat and would be a pleasure to host, Kalhara could just be your man.
