A standout at age-group level, Perera rose through the ranks with strong performances in Provincial and School tournaments before making his first-class debut in 2020. He was part of Lankan Cricket Club's U23 Championship-winning side in 2021 and later joined Nugegoda Sports and Welfare Club in 2022.
Following two steady domestic seasons, Perera truly found his stride in 2024, notching his maiden List A century and tallying 245 runs at an impressive average of 81.66 in the Major One-Day Tournament. His breakout campaign earned him selection for Dambulla in the National Premier League.
With his game on the rise, Perera made good on his UK ambitions in 2026, enjoying an excellent debut season for Whitehaven CC. He struck 687 runs at 49.07, including a maiden century (115*) and four fifties, while his leg-spin chipped in with 17 wickets at 23.65.
