Leah Jones is a South African international cricketer who has progressed from a prodigious young talent in the Western Province system into a domestic captain, SACA Women's Domestic MVP, and full international for the Proteas Women. Born in Cape Town, she is a right-hand batter and right-arm medium bowler, with her principal value coming as a genuine bowling all-rounder.
Jones made an impact from a very young age, representing Western Province at Under-19 level before breaking into the senior Western Province women's side as a teenager. She has since gone on to captain the side, having taken the armband by the 2022/23 season, and now leads Western Province in both the CSA Women's Pro50 and Pro20 competitions.
The 2024/25 season was the standout campaign of Jones's domestic career to date. She was named the inaugural overall SACA Women's Domestic MVP, finishing the rankings on 230.10 points ahead of the Dolphins' Alexander Candler and Titans all-rounder Suné Luus, while also leading Western Province from the front as captain. Her bowling was a major factor: she claimed 14 wickets in the Pro20 Series and a further 14 in the 50-over competition, for 28 wickets across the two formats.
Her captaincy has coincided with sustained success for Western Province. The side won the 2024/25 Hollywoodbets Pro20 title, and Jones led them to back-to-back Pro20 glory in 2025/26, before completing the domestic double by also winning the 2025/26 Pro50 title, beating the Lions Women in both finals.
Jones's domestic form earned her a maiden call-up to the Proteas Women, and she made her One-Day International debut against Ireland at St George's Park on 16 December 2025. It was an immediate impact: she took 3 wickets for 48 runs in 6.5 overs as South Africa secured a 74-run victory. She has also gone on to captain South Africa's Emerging side, further underlining her growing leadership profile within the national set-up.
Across two ODIs to date, Jones has taken 4 wickets at an average of 22.75, with best figures of 3/48.
Leah Jones's career to date is defined by early promise, sustained domestic success, natural leadership, and a rapid rise to international cricket. Her combination of wicket-taking ability, captaincy experience, and all-round skill make her one of the most exciting young talents in South African women's cricket.
