Matthew Hay is an exciting batting all-rounder from Canterbury, New Zealand.
A classy left-handed middle-order batter, the kiwi has already scored over 4,000 runs and taken nearly 300 wickets playing for Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club in the Christchurch Metro Premier Competition. A talented all-rounder, Hay's prolific performances with both bat and ball, has seen him represent Canterbury at List A & T20 level.
Hay has also dominated the club scene in Christchurch for a number of years. In 2021/22, the all-rounder took home the Christchurch Metro "Club Cricketer of the Year". Hay who also bowls right-arm off spin was the competitions leading wicket-taker in 2022/23, picking up 58 wickets at an average of 12.
Hay has been involved in the Canterbury A set up for 5 seasons and has regularly captained the side. He plays all three formats for Canterbury A with significant performances of 113 vs Wellington in 2021, not to mention his exceptional 163 from only 70 balls vs New Zealand Development XI in 2022.
On the back of strong Canterbury A performances, Hay has been involved in the Canterbury Kings squad for the past 4 seasons, playing his part in a successful campaign during the 2020/21 Ford Trophy winning season.
Hay, who featured in the Dutch Topklasse for the Hague (HCC) in 2019, has now targeted a return abroad in 2024. Given the "pathway" ruling, he is seeking a club in Ireland or Holland.
