Matt Munro is an exciting talent who has represented Canterbury through the age groups and is a stand-out bowler for East Shirley Cricket Club in the Christchurch Metro Cricket Association.

Standing 6 foot tall, the off-spinner has built a strong reputation within the region over recent years courtesy of his ability to generate turn, drift, and bounce. Identified as a genuine prospect from an early age, Munro was selected to play for the Canterbury Under-19s at the age of 15. He represented the State at 4 consecutive National Under-19 Championships bagging 23 wickets at 19. Munro was instrumental in their 2020 National title.

Since then, he has progressed through the Canterbury pathway system, earned inclusion in the 32-wider squad for the New Zealand Under-19s, and has established himself as a dominant performer in Premier cricket in Christchurch, initially for Riccarton, but more recently for East Shirley.

Munro has a leadership role within the East Shirley side and has become their go-to spinner, recently bagging the wicket of Blackcaps opener Tom Latham. The off-spinner is clearly a prodigious talent who is now looking to break into the Canterbury side in the not-too-distant future.

The Canterbury young gun is also eager to experience a lifelong dream and play cricket in Europe. Given the pathway ruling prevents him from playing UK club cricket, Munro is looking for an Irish or Dutch club for the 2024 season.

Alongside his cricket, Munro holds coaching qualifications and is a level 3 Sports Turf accreditation, so represents an excellent acquisition for any club in 2024.
