Naveed Obaid is a sensational talent recommended by legendary spinner Rashid Khan who is currently playing domestic cricket in Afghanistan.
In his most recent red-ball outing for Mis Ainak Region (June 2022), the opening batter struck a brilliant 170 from only 116 balls, including 21 fours and 9 sixes to help his side to a 70-run victory over Amo Region in the Merwais Nika Regional 3-Day Trophy.
Obaid has enjoyed a prolific 2022 calendar year to date, having also finished amongst the leading run-scorers in the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Provincial Grade One Day Tournament, hitting 261 runs at 52.20 with a strike rate over 100.
Whilst still in his early 20s, Obaid has already enjoyed significant representative success, and looks set for the big time in future.
A former Afghanistan Under-19 player, Obaid featured in 6 matches, and skippered the side to the Asian Cricket Council Under-19 Asia Cup final victory over Pakistan. His side, back in November 2017, included Afghanistan internationals such as Rahmatullah Gurbaz, Ikram Alikhil, Abdul Wasi, and Qais Ahmad.
A few months later (March 2018), Obaid broke into the Mis Ainak Region first-class side, and has since played 12 red ball matches, alongside 11 further white ball games.
Obaid, who also bowls handy off-spin, is an incredible prospect who is now looking to ply his trade abroad, initially down under (2022/23) before a UK stint in 2023.
