Pathum Dilshan is an in-form Sri Lankan opening batter who doubles as a competent wicket-keeper, playing for Nugegoda Sports and Welfare Club in domestic cricket.
Dilshan moved to Nugegoda last summer to play under the leadership of former Sri Lankan white ball player Chaminda Bandara. It’s fair to say, he has been a stand-out performer from the top of the order.
In his debut match against Chilaw Marians, Dilshan struck a brilliant maiden first-class century (102*). Thereafter, he followed up with fifties against both Ace Capital (50), and Badureliya (55), taking his red ball tally to 522 runs at 27.47 from 11 matches.
Dilshan’s move from Sri Lanka Army, with whom he spent 6 seasons (2015/16-21/22) has proved a success. During his time with the Army, he had only featured in 30 matches across the three formats, albeit with limited success.
For many, his under-performance prior to his Nugegoda move came as a surprise, especially following his brilliant century (132 from 108 balls) in only his second List A outing (for Badulla District) in March 2017.
Nevertheless, Dilshan has most certainly returned to form and is now eager to continue this run-scoring trend in the UK next summer. The opening bat and gloveman represents a fantastic acquisition for any club side next season.
