Rajesh Mohanty is a rising star in Indian domestic cricket, representing Odisha with distinction. A skilful right-arm seamer, Mohanty burst onto the scene in late 2018, just a month after impressing for India Under-19s. That same year, he had already broken into Odisha’s white-ball squads, marking the beginning of what many saw as a promising career.
And he didn’t disappoint.
In just his third Ranji Trophy outing, Mohanty produced a standout performance, claiming 11 wickets for 86 runs against Assam—a clear signal that he was ready for the big stage. His early success earned him a call-up to represent the Indian Board XI against the England Lions in early 2019, followed by selection for India Green in the prestigious Duleep Trophy, where he featured in the final.
His debut Ranji season was nothing short of remarkable: 40 wickets at an average of 19.42. He backed it up the next year with another strong campaign, taking 32 wickets at 21.31, solidifying his reputation as one of India’s brightest young fast-bowling prospects.
Then came COVID, halting momentum just as he was hitting his stride. When red-ball cricket resumed, Mohanty’s return in early 2022 was quieter—5 wickets in 3 Ranji matches—and an ankle injury kept him out of the 2022/23 red-ball season. Despite this setback, he played a key role in Odisha’s white-ball campaign, picking up 7 wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Fast forward to the 2023/24 season, and Mohanty was back to his best. He dominated in the Vijay Hazare Trophy again (11 wickets at 21), then returned to the Ranji Trophy side in superb form. He grabbed 31 wickets at just 18.54, including three five-wicket hauls and his third 10-wicket match performance (5/64 & 5/61 vs J&K). He followed this up with another solid summer, adding 10 more wickets at 33.90, and his eighth five-wicket haul (5/68).
While he’s known for his impact with the ball, Mohanty brings genuine value with the bat too. With a first-class top score of 60, he’s shown flashes of all-round potential and is keen to take on a middle-order batting role in club cricket.
As he looks ahead to the 2026 season, Rajesh Mohanty is not just seeking to continue his rise as a bowler but also to develop further as an all-rounder—bringing balance, experience, and match-winning ability to any side he joins.
