A product of the Derbyshire County Cricket Club pathway system, Rory has been a key figure across the county age groups for several years. Despite his young age, he has developed a strong reputation for his accuracy and ability to generate movement both in the air and off the pitch. His control of line and length, combined with his capacity to bowl long, disciplined spells, has made him a consistent performer in multi-day cricket. He played a significant role in Derbyshire U18s’ ECB National Plate-winning campaign last summer.
Rory attends Denstone College, one of the leading schools in the region, where he is a key member of the First XI competing in the National Schools Competition.
When school commitments allow, Rory represents Aldridge Cricket Club in the Premier Division of the South Staffordshire County Cricket League. The 2025 season proved to be a standout year, with Rory claiming 93 wickets across all competitions. Notably, he took 36 wickets for Aldridge First XI at an outstanding average of 13.39, underlining his ability to perform at a high level in senior cricket.
With the bat, Rory adds valuable depth in the middle to lower order. He is capable of steadying an innings or accelerating when required, often forming key partnerships in the latter stages.
Off the field, Rory has completed his ECB Core Coach (Level Two) qualification and is eager to contribute within a club’s coaching structure, giving back and supporting the development of younger players.
Set to complete his education this summer, Rory is targeting a season Down Under, with the ambition of playing alongside his Derbyshire teammate and close friend Freddie Clark. He is keen to gain valuable overseas experience and continue progressing his game in different conditions.
A highly promising young seamer with proven performance and strong character, Rory Wood would be an excellent addition for any club seeking emerging overseas talent for the 2026/27 season.
