Roshan Lakmal is an accomplished all-rounder who has returned to Sri Lankan domestic cricket this summer (2022), following a decade’s hiatus, much of which was spent plying his trade in Australia.
He has returned with a bang for Panadura, where he features alongside fellow CricX stars Nimesh Vimukthi, and Raminda Wijesooriya. After the opening 4 Major League Tournament (first-class) fixtures, Lakmal has racked up 3 fifties amongst 258 runs at 86 from the middle-order.
Due to the strength and depth of spin within the Panadura ranks, bowling opportunities have been limited, but Lakmal is a quality left-arm spinner evidenced by his prior success in both domestic and Australian club cricket. In 19 first-class matches (at the point of writing), Lakmal has based 3 five-wicket bags, a 10 wicket match haul, and 49 poles at 27.73, alongside 404 runs at 31.07 in his 20 first-class innings.
Following his first-class debut (2009), and three initial seasons in Sri Lankan domestic cricket, Lakmal headed for the first of his 6 seasons in Australia. He became a legend in the South East Cricket Association (Longmuir Shield) courtesy of his exploits for Mackie Cricket Club.
Having joined the club as predominantly a left-arm spinner in 2013/14, he would go on to excel in both facets scoring 2,178 runs at 32.51, alongside 145 wickets at 20.37. He enjoyed arguably his most prolific season (particularly with the bat) during what proved to be his final season in 2019/20 before COVID struck.
He has now resumed domestic cricket in Sri Lanka and is now eager to embark on his next challenge – a season’s club cricket in England.
A player, and bloke, who comes incredibly highly regarded, we suspect Lakmal will be a sought-after acquisition for any club in 2023.
