Saami Welsh is an exceptional spin bowling prospect playing first grade for Perth in Western Australia.

The tall (189cm) left-arm tweaker has been a revelation for Perth since joining the grade (WACA) club from suburban turf (WASTCA) club Wembley Districts in 2020/21.

After dominating 'subbies' in 2019/20 (28 wickets at 13.18), he started in Perth’s seconds before swiftly earning topflight selection in round two. He hasn’t looked back, bagging 14 first grade wickets (at 30.64) in 2020/21 to cement his spot in a side that features the likes of Josh Nicholas (Western Australia), and Liam Guthrie (Brisbane Heat).

In 2021/22, Welsh was one of WACA grade cricket’s stand-out bowlers taking 26 wickets at 18.88 including his maiden 5-wicket bag (5028). He finished second to Nicholas (32 at 18.78) on Perth’s wicket-charts, ahead of Heat quick Guthrie (18 at 21.61), and was the WACA 50-over competitions equal fourth leading wicket-taker.

It’s fair to say, Welsh has enjoyed a meteoric rise in grade cricket which hasn’t gone unnoticed by Western Australian selectors. He has represented the State at schoolboy level, playing alongside Australian U19 stars Teague Whyllie and Cooper Connelly. Over the past two seasons, he has been involved with the WA U19 squad.

Holder of a British Passport, the gifted youngster spent his maiden season abroad in 2022 playing for Bangor in the North Wales Premier League. He performed with distinction bagging 36 wickets at 16.86 in his 22 matches for the club.

The talented dual Passport holder is now open to a UK return for the 2024 season.
