Sam Cliffe is an exciting and talented young cricketer from Staffordshire.
He enters his second year on the Derbyshire County Cricket Club Academy for the 2026 season, having delivered a series of standout performances throughout the county pathway system. The Englishman made his County Second XI debut last season against Surrey and went on to feature in a further five matches at that level. He is now targeting increased Second XI opportunities in the upcoming campaign.
Cliffe also played a key role in Derbyshire’s Under-18 side, which lifted the ECB National Plate title, and is regarded as a highly rated prospect within the academy system.
At club level, the opening batter has scored 1,000 or more runs across all competitions for five consecutive seasons. Ahead of the 2026 season, he has moved to Leek Cricket Club, one of the powerhouses of the North Staffs and South Cheshire League, to further test himself at Premier League level.
In addition to his on-field performances, Sam is a qualified coach and is eager to fully immerse himself in his chosen club’s coaching structure, helping to mentor and develop the next generation of cricketers.
With ambitions of pushing for a Rookie or Professional Contract with Derbyshire, Sam is now seeking a season in the Southern Hemisphere to continue his development and gain valuable experience in overseas conditions.
Sam recently put pen to paper with Western Australia based side Waroona Warriors for their upcoming 2026/27 Peel Cricket Association campaign.
