Sandeep Patel is an exciting batting all-rounder pushing for Northern Knights selection.

A schoolboy prodigy, Patel has been a prolific performer through the age groups culminating with New Zealand Under-19 selection.

A top-order batter who bowls brisk medium-pace, Patel was selected for the 2018 ICC Under-19 World Cup after being named Northern Districts “Young Player of the Year” (2017/18).

Later that year he was picked to play for and scored 69 for New Zealand XI against the touring Sri Lankans. In November 2019, he represented the side again, this time against England scoring 56* against an attack featuring Woakes, Archer, Broad, Curran, Stokes, and Leach.

He has been a Northern Districts ‘A’ regular in recent years, but despite being named in a List A game, has yet to feature for a Knight’s lineup that can include no less than 10 Blackcaps, including the likes of Williamson, Mitchell, Santner, Wagner, Boult, and Southee.

Nevertheless, he continues to bang the door down with performances at both club, and provincial level.

Over the past two seasons, playing for Manukau City in the Counter-Manukau Senior Competition, he has excelled hitting 484 runs at 53.77 alongside 29 wickets at 14.88 (2019/20), and 586 runs at 41.86 and 25 wickets at 20.08 (2020/21).

For his Minor Association, Counties-Manukau in the respective Brian Cunning Cup and Fergus Hickey Rosebowl competitions last summer he starred hitting 316 runs at 45.14 and 13 wickets at 13.54 for good measure.

Patel remains an incredible talent who seems destined to break into the Knights fold in due course. For now, though, he is looking to embark on a European stint abroad in 2022.

Due to Home Office regulations, he’s ineligible to play in the UK, therefore is seeking an opportunity to play in the Republic of Ireland, or the Netherlands in 2022.
