Sandun Madushanka is a rising slow left-arm spinner making waves in Sri Lanka’s domestic circuit. A product of the famed St. Aloysius’ College in Galle, Madushanka progressed steadily through the age-group levels before earning selection for Galle Cricket Club’s U23 side. His consistency and control soon propelled him into the senior squad, where he debuted across all formats in 2022.
It didn’t take long for the young spinner to make an impression. In his first-class debut season, Madushanka claimed 22 wickets at an average of 22.45, with standout figures of 5 for 45 — a performance that firmly marked him as one to watch. However, the return of veteran spinner Umega Chathuranga limited his opportunities, prompting a smart move to Nugegoda Sports & Welfare Club ahead of the 2024/25 season in search of more regular cricket.
That same hunger to bowl and grow as a cricketer saw Madushanka take his talents overseas to the UK, where he enjoyed a brilliant two-season stint with Ramsey Cricket Club. In his debut summer, he was a key architect of their title-winning campaign in the Cambs and Hunts League, bagging 60 wickets at a staggering average of just 8.25. He backed it up with the bat too, contributing valuable runs down the order.
As of late July 2025, he’s continued that form into his second season, taking his club tally to 103 wickets at 8.80 with an economy of 2.36 and a strike rate of 22.34. Remarkably, he’s accounted for over 30% of his team’s wickets — underlining both his reliability and impact.
A proven match-winner with the ball and a determined cricketer with a clear trajectory, Madushanka is eager to return to the UK once again in 2026. For clubs seeking a left-arm spinner who can lead an attack and contribute lower down the order, he is a seriously exciting option.
Note: Sandun's eligibility window for UK club cricket (based on 5 FC matches in the last 36 months) remains open until 7 Oct 2025.
