Supun Kavinda is a talented all-rounder playing for Nugegoda Sports and Welfare Club this summer, having previously enjoyed stints with Chilaw Marians Cricket Club (2023/24), Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club (2020/21-22/23), Sri Lanka Ports Authority Cricket Club (2019/20).
A genuine all-rounder, Kavinda is a left-handed batter who has excelled as an opener at Emerging level but bats middle-order in professional cricket. He is also an accomplished slow left-arm spinner who has been a stand-out in white ball cricket, in-particular.
Kavinda broke into professional cricket for Sri Lanka Ports Authority in December 2019 but despite his talent, has been pigeon-holed as a white ball player throughout his fledgling career to date. As it stands, the all-rounder has played 27 List A, 17 T20, and only 5 FC matches.
Throughout his career, Kavinda has been a key member of several title-winning teams, including the 2021 and 2022 Major One Day, 2022 Mercantile, and 2022 SLC Emerging Three Day Tournaments. In-fact, it was his exploits in the latter that helped his Tamil Union U23s to the title finishing top of the sides run charts (410 runs at 41) with a highest score of 173 vs Nugegoda. To add context, his side also included the likes of recent Sri Lankan white ball player, Ravindu Fernando, and current Emerging Players stars Navod Paranavithana, and Santhush Gunathilake.
Kavinda is hoping to secure opportunities across all formats for his new club this summer, and thereafter is looking forward to showcasing his talent with Spring View Cricket Club for their 2025 Liverpool and District Competition campaign.
