Suwath Mendis is a highly talented leg spin bowling all rounder who has enjoyed success both at home in Sri Lanka and as a UK club cricket professional.
A genuine all rounder, Suwath bowls quality leg spin, with good control and is able to contribute nicely with the bat from the middle order. Currently representing Nugegoda SWC in the top level of professional cricket in Sri Lanka, his career is on an upward trajectory and Suwath has a very high ceiling as a cricketer.
At the time of writing he has taken 37 first class wickets at an average of 25.05 and a best of 5/49. He also has 25 'list a' wickets at an average of 17.20 and a best of 4/21. He is also showing his worth as an all rounder at the top level, currently averaging 25.88 in first class cricket, with a top score of 63 and x3 half centuries to his name. He has also enjoyed success in the UK, spending two summers on these shores with Marsden Cricket Club (Durham & North East Cricket League) and Wombourne Cricket Club (South Staffordshire County Premier League). Not only did he stand out with his performances on the pitch but Suwath received glowing references from both clubs for his all round contribution to the club and his positive attitude in general. He is a keen and enthusiastic coach who has actively helped junior players throughout his previous UK trips and is a model pro with a very positive and infectious character. Suwath is a qualified ECB Core Coach.
He also weighed in with strong performances on the pitch, in his debut season as a young player he was a hit with 35 wickets from just 133.4 overs at an average of 13.86, he also weighed in with 372 runs for good measure. Fast forward to 2024 and much better for the experience of his debut UK season, Suwath headed to the midlands to play for Wombourne CC. On a beautiful ground with small boundaries, he was exceptional and ended the season with 45 wickets from 181 overs at an average of 14.42, he also chipped in with 354 runs and a best of 86 against Pelsall CC.
Suwath is now keen to head overseas once more, he represents a fantastic all round club cricket professional and someone who comes with excellent character references from his previous clubs. He would be a pleasure to host for any club looking for a quality spin bowling all rounder, keen coach and all round top guy.
