Tharindu Kaushal is a highly decorated cricketer who has been one of Sri Lankan crickets premium spin bowling all rounders in recent times.
A high quality off spinner with a bag of tricks, middle order batter and keen coach, he really does represent a fantastic option as an overseas professional.
At the time of writing, Tharindu has 378 first class wickets at an average of 25.90. He has taken a staggering 33 five wickets hauls and has taken a match haul of ten wickets 8 times. He has also taken 89 list a wickets at an average of 23.13 and 34 T20 wickets at an average of 24.58 for good measure. His bowling alone would mark him as a stand out option, however he is also a genuine all rounder with good stats at professional level too. From the middle order, he has scored seven first class half centuries and has one century to his name (his career best of 131).
His performances at domestic level were rewarded with an international debut at Test Match level vs New Zealand in Christchurch in December 2014. In total he played 7 Test Matches and a solitary ODI (in a victorious World Cup quarter final vs South Africa in Sydney) for Sri Lanka.
He has spent the last couple of seasons playing in the strong NSW Premier League for Sutherland District Cricket Club and has unsurprisingly excelled, taking (at the time of writing) 69 wickets at 24.64 with a best of 7/70 and scoring 614 runs at 19.81. He also has UK experience, playing in the Liverpool & District Premier League, which is widely regarded as one of the strongest leagues in the country. In a 14 game stint, he took 30 wickets at 23.27 and made 405 runs at 33.75. He also completed his ECB Level 2 coaching course during his time in the UK.
Tharindu is quite clearly a high quality cricketer and is now keen to head back to the UK for another season. A genuine all rounder, keen coach and with full season availability, he really is an excellent option for the coming summer.
