Theo van Woerkom is an accomplished left-arm spinner playing for Canterbury in New Zealand domestic cricket.
A former New Zealand Under-19 representative who played at the 2012 ICC World Cup in Australia, van Woerkom is currently playing his eighth season for Canterbury.
Since his debut during the 2015 season, the left-armer has developed into Canterbury’s front-line spinner in first-class cricket (Plunket Shield). In 2018 his performances culminated with New Zealand A selection playing against the touring India A side.
Throughout his Canterbury career, he has been a key feature in three Championship-winning campaigns. To date, van Woerkom has featured in 50 plus matches for the red and blacks, taking neigh on 70 wickets including best figures of 5/42 against Auckland during the 2021/22 Plunket Shield.
With the bat, he averages in the low 20s in first-class with 3 half centuries, including 54 against India A.
The talented left-arm spin bowling all-rounder will play abroad in 2023 having signed with Irish powerhouse CIYMS for their 2023 Northern Cricket Union campaign. He hopes his exploits will help secure Inter Provincial opportunities with the Knights and push for full Irish honours.
