Theo van Woerkom is a New Zealand-born spin bowling all-rounder who earned a spot in Ireland's squad for the ICC World Cup qualifiers in 2023.
The slow left-armer, whose grandfather on his mother’s side is Irish, relocated to Ireland in 2023 to pursue his international ambitions. Following success at club (CIYMS) and provincial (Northern Knights) level, he was selected as replacement for the injured Gareth Delaney for Ireland's qualifiers in July 2023.
Prior to his move to Ireland, van Woerkom enjoyed a 54-game career spanning 7 years (2015-22) for Canterbury in New Zealand cricket. A former New Zealand Under-19 representative, his exploits for Canterbury culminated with New Zealand A selection playing against the touring India A side in 2020.
Throughout his Canterbury career, he was a key feature in three Championship-winning campaigns. Personally, he bagged 65 wickets including best figures of 5/42 against Auckland during the 2021/22 Plunket Shield.
The talented left-arm spin bowling all-rounder is now hoping to push for Irish playing honours and will also be open to global opportunities moving forward.
