Udekwe Chiemelie is an exceptional pace bowling talent who, despite his tender age, spearheads the Nigerian bowling attack.
A genuine quick, Chiemelie regularly hits the 145kph mark, making him one of the fastest bowlers outside the Test playing nations.
A player with a serious future in the game, Chiemelie starred for the U19s, playing in the 2020 World Cup in South Africa, before dominating the U19 World Cup qualifiers in Rwanda (2021).
In December 2022, aged just 17, he made his full international debut in the T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifiers. He has since become a key performer for Nigeria in the West Africa Trophy and T20 World Cup Africa Region qualifiers.
At the point of writing, Chiemelie has played 23 T20I matches, has 24 wickets at 16.04, with a strike and economy rate of 16.70 and 5.73, respectively.
Whilst he has already earned rave reviews about his pace, he has serious skills, with the ability to shape the ball with control. He is also a more than handy batter in the lower order and aspires to become a genuine all-rounder in future.
For now, though, the talented Nigerian is eager to showcase his skills abroad, initially with a season’s UK league cricket, but Franchise cricket thereafter.
